Short-term ski tour Iceland
A ski enthusiastic family of entrepreneurs flew to Iceland for a big business event. The culmination of this event was supposed to be a private family ski tour in this area, which they booked me to organize and guide.
With international projects outside the Alps, the tour preparation is much more extensive than in my home areas in the Alps. In the last 30 years I have gained a lot of experience with tour planning all over Europe, from Iceland to Turkey, from Sweden to southern Italy and also in Asia. These tours are special challenges, but also special experiences for the customer and me.
At the beginning of project, I get an overview of the various tour options on site in order to be able to advise the customer in the best possible way. Important sources of information for this are my colleagues who have already been to the target spot, as well as local alpinists and experts. I have a dense network of mountain guides with whom I work in the planning phase. But the tour itself is solely done by me personally!

As part of the security concept, I discuss the planned tour with local authorities and check the available rescue chain and medical care. Insurance matters for emergencies must also be clarified in advance. Abroad in particular, you have to care about alternative options for activating rescue operations and possibly also rent corresponding satellite communication devices or radio equipment.

I arrived in Iceland four days before the planned start of the tour in order to be able to react to any organizational problems in due time. Since the equipment rented on site did not really meet my expectations, there was still enough time to organize high quality equipment elsewhere.

The weather conditions in Iceland should be treated with Icelandic serenity. An old Icelandic saying goes: „If the weather doesn’t suit you, wait five minutes!“ The snow conditions and snow layer stability were very good, so the tour selection was a matter of taste.

Unusual lighting conditions at the summer solstice, the hot bath springs in old lava canyons, a boat trip for deep sea fishing and a ride on the coast with the famous Icelandic ponies rounded off the skiing experience.
